Question
Why are words needing emphasis in blogs these days surrounded by asterisks such as *this* instead of being italicized? Are italics dead? Someone, please explain this to me.

It's a *pain* in the *ass*. I prefer to CAPITALIZE but apparently that's a big no no.
Then you have those people who think you shouldn't emphasize any words, that you should let people read it the way they want.

LOL. I am guilty of the crine - didn't know it was annoying and now that I stop to think about it, I really don't know why I do it!
Oh, it's not annoying to me. I was just very curious because most everyone does it that way now and I didn't know why.
